- [1] Introduction
-
- DISCLAIMER: The author of this program is in no way responsible for
- misuse of this program. Any damages incurred due to the use of this
- program shall be the responsibility of the operator of the program.
- By running this program, you are accepting full liability and
- responsibility for any damages incurred.
-
- Welcome to AWE32FXWorkShop, the successor to FXTweak. AWE32FXWorkShop
- allows you to customize the reverb&chorus effects of the Sound Blaster
- AWE32 and the Sound Blaster 32 (hereafter AWE32).
-
- AWE32FXWorkShop will run in all major operating environments which are
- compatible with Microsoft DOS. When running AWE32FXWorkShop under a
- multitasking environment, make sure that no other tasks which take
- control of the AWE32 are running.
-
- CAUTION: Be careful when setting the parameters to their "max" values.
- You may blow out your speakers, or worse yet, you may lose your hearing.
- (Probably not). But anyway, be careful, and never ever, turn the
- volume up. But most importantly, have fun, and be creative.
-
-
- [2] Getting Start
-
- You must have either a Sound Blaster AWE32, or a Sound Blaster 32 in
- order to use this program.
-
- In order to run this program under Microsoft Windows, no programs
- which take control of the AWE32 should be running. Vienna SFStudio
- does not take control of the AWE32. Vienna will release control, when
- you background it.
-
- To get command line help run AWE32FXWorkShop with the /? argument.
-
- If AWE32FXWorkShop is run without any arguments, it will load into the
- GUI. Under the GUI, the AWE32's effects engine is updated in realtime;
- i.e. when you make a change to any parameter, it is immediately updated.
- This makes it possible to audition changes to effects in realtime, when
- a program playing sound/music through the AWE32 is running in the back-
- ground. This program has been tested to work under the DOS Shell of
- Cubic Player v1.6.
-
- Once in the GUI of AWE32FXWorkShop, most of the keys are self-
- explanitory. Initially AWE32FXWorkShop will load the Chorus Parameter
- screen. Pushing the F2 key will switch to the Reverb Parameter screen.
- Pushing F1 will switch back to Chorus.
-
- To edit the parameters, move the selector using the up and down arrows
- until the proper parameter is highlighted. Once the proper parameter is
- highlighted, pressing the Enter key will allow you to edit it.
-
- All parameters are in the hexadecimal base. All input should be in
- hexadecimal. Example: ffff.
-
- Once you are done creating or editing a chorus or reverb effect, you
- may save it by pressing the F9 key. Type in the path and filename of the
- file you wish to save.
-
- Chorus parameter files should end in the .FXC extension. Reverb
- parameter files should end in .FXR.
-
- You may also load a parameter file by pushing the F10 key.
-
- Up/Down Arrows Move the selector.
- Enter Edit the parameter.
- +/- Increment/Decrement the parameter.
- F1 Chorus Parameter Screen.
- F2 Reverb Parameter Screen.
- F9 Save current parameter screen.
- F10 Load parameter file.
-
-
- [3] Chorus Parameters
-
- Feedback Level The range for this parameter is 0xE600-0xE6FF.
- This parameter controls the feedback level of
- the chorus. Use caution when setting thi
- parameter above 0xE6F0.
-
- Delay Offset This parameter controls the distance between
- "repeats" in samples. A setting of 0x100 will
- set the delay to 256 samples, or approximately
- 5.8 milliseconds. Setting this parameter above
- 0xC10 (70 milliseconds) will cause the repeats
- to be "reverberated." The range is 0-0xDA3.
- Each unit represents 1/44100 seconds.
-
- LFO Depth The range for this parameter is 0xBC00-0xBCFF.
- This parameter controls the depth of the LFO.
- A larger value will cause the chorus to variate
- more than smaller values.
-
- Delay Offset 2 This parameter controls the delay for the right
- channel repeat. This is the time the right
- channel's repeat will come before the left
- channel repeat. Each unit represents
- 1/256*1/44100 seconds. The range is
- 0-0xFFFFFFFF.
-
- LFO Frequency This is the frequency at which the chorus
- "variates." A larger number causes a higher
- frequency. The range is 0-0xFFFFFFFF.
-
- [4] Reverb Parameters
-
- The exact nature of the reverb parameters is not yet known. However,
- a rough approximation of the parameters can be learned by examining the
- example .FXR parameter files which are included with this program.
-
